We'll discuss ideas about writing from writers such as Barbara Kingsolver and George Saunders, and use a variety of tools as a springboard to experiment, play and create in our own writing. This workshop is aimed at all writers, writing at any level, willing to commit to serious, supportive, critical discussion about how we write. Spend two hours at the American Library in Paris on a spring morning...and head back to your writing project with renewed enthusiasm.

Walk Insolite

PARIS AFLOAT 1910 a 90-min walking tour - 2pm

starts on Pont des Arts Paris France [map]
Price: 8 euros

Church bells are tolling 2pm in an eerily quiet city, where the flooding Seine has silenced the usual Paris cacophony. The motto of Paris is FLUCTUAT NEC MURGITUR - Tossed by the waves, she does not sink. And yet, in January of 1910, Parisians feel the city might be sinking...the Seine has broken its banks and flooded the streets, the metros, and the sewers, forcing whole quartiers to evacuate. We start our story beside the Louvre, where museum guards are desperately working to keep the flood waters out. The poet Apollinaire writes about the experience, shocked by what he sees. Halley's Comet is passing overhead, leading people to blame the flood on occult forces...

upcoming book: any bright horse (April 2012)

I'm making the final edits to any bright horse, the poetry manuscript that's coming out this spring. Very stressful & exciting or, in other words, Frontenac editor Rose Scollard spends much of her time talking me off the ledge...
