Every now and then, somebody does something SO annoying that the best solution is to challenge them to a duel. Or so Princess Pauline von Metternich believed. I spoke about Metternich, and her amazing fashion sense, in Oct 2018 at the Bloor Street Cinema, during my series of talks about the 19th century. In many ways, Metternich was the woman who introduced the idea of Haute Couture to the media--by wearing dresses made by the House of Worth. An English tailor, a French shopgirl, an Austrian princess, and a new Empress... ingredients for one helluva Parisian story! But meanwhile, enjoy Pauline duelling over floral arrangements.
